Hi,
I have recently moved office and this morning it became clear that BT did not transfer my static IP to the broadband line installed at my new office - a new static ip has been assigned.
We are using exchange on SBS2008 and incoming SMTP mail is not being received, presumably because of the IP address change.
I've spoken to BT and they are unable to revert back to the old static IP address so my only option seems to be to change the IP settings with my email host to match the new static IP.
I'm expecting this to take some time so is there any way in the interim to get incoming emails routed from the old IP address to the new?
Apologies if any of the above is confused or if I have omitted any important information, IT is not my primary area of expertise and it's been a long, stressful day. Please ask if you need more info.
Thanks in advance
Steve
Hi Stevethecadman
This should takea maximum of 4 hours to change the MX records for your email.
If you go to www.mxtoolbox.com and search your domain this will show you where the mail is currently being moved to.
A quick chat with the host and most of the time a change is completed within a minute or two, although i do have to warn 4 hours is advised turnaround time for most hosts.
Thanks
