Hi,
I have had the Business Broadband Option 1 plan (max monthly usage 10GB) for about a year, using it for emails and web browsing and very occasionally listening to the radio. Suddenly this month I have received emails warning me that I've exceeded my monthly usage limit. This is a mystery to me because I don't download music or films etc.
The only difference is that my OH has been watching the Olympics on the BBC website and has started to use FTP to receive some business files. Could either of these have caused a sudden surge in broadband usage?

Hi,
The change of line would have had no effect on your usage to be honest. If you're so far away from other people then wireless hijacking is unlikely, so the main culprits are malware and doing something you didn't realise tok up a lot of bandwidth (i.e. anything with video).
My advice for now would be to scan your systems for spyware and viruses, change your wireless password (just in case), and run a network usage checker like Networx (note: not a BT endorsed or supported program).
Once you've done that then send an email to liteusage@btbroadbandoffice.com with the phone number of your broadband, a description of the issue (including a copy of one of the warning emails), and the answer to the security question on your account.
They'll be able to look at the usage an give you an idea of when it happened.

Done everything you have suggested. No I NEVER ever have downloaded music, videos, etc, don't even look at Youtube! Not now or in the past. Maybe use the PC for 2 hours a day max, basic surfing, emailing (rarely send an attachment and if I do it will be one or two small images). The PC tower has been into a specialist for a complete inspection.
In fact I don't use the internet every day as I travel away at least 1 -2 days a week. And there is no one else here.
Yes I have contacted BT till I am blue in the face asking them to investigate. And now have 3 incident tickets in addition to email chat transcriptions. The last 2 incident tickets BT has not even bothered to reply to from over 2 weeks ago. And yet again on Friday I got another excess useage notice!!!
NOT a happy bunny.
Hi,
It certainly seems odd then.
What to do is put everything together in an email, and send it to liteusage@btbroadbandoffice.com, along with the your broadband phone number and the answer to the security question on your account.
We'll be able to have a look in more detail, and try and figure out what's going on.

Hi Sue K
If its for e-mail go to my officve space and clear out your e-mails that will free up the space and the messages will disappear.
I don't get it. Can you tell me exactly how does that work, nishkanabar?
Hi,
We have had this & we have McAfee SaaS (Online business system with full reporting & management) on all our computers. BT say that we have a worm, virus, all sorts of things going on but in fact McAfee reports that there are at times many outside sessions coming to our router firewall from BTs server addresses at various locations around the UK. Nothing is passing the router & McAfee firewall onto our system fortunately.
There is nothing going on with our system or computers, all is fine, we have scanned over & over with every type of anti malware you can imagine - all clean. We have also been running TTB Meter Monitoring too & that reports normal usage.
At times when the activity is high our band width goes to a crawl & we get loads of timeouts too.
We also get excessive sessions messages too.
The saving thing is that, at home at least, we have been able to get a price for BT Unlimited Usage at less than Option 2 which was starting to cost us big time for the excessive usage. So now at least it is BT who suffer more than us.
BT say they can't help further.
Hi Rob,
Did you send an email to the light usage address I gave to LDWH37?
