My mother has a business line with BT that she wishes to switch to TalkTalk. This is due to the recent death of my father hence the business in no longer in operation. All of the family are on TalkTalk so this makes sense. However, TalkTalk cannot take over the line whilst Featureline is installed.....
Having spoken to BT about removing Featureline, they were happy to do this but this would automatically start a new 24 month contract period. Alternatively they could switch the line to residential - again starting a new 24 month period.
So if my mum moves to residential taking the "line rental" only option, the termination sum i.e. the cost of switching provider would appear to be (24 x £2.50) £60. Given that my mother is now a widow on very low income and has been a customer of BT her whole adult life, this sticks in my throat.
Is there any way around this? Is this a case for Ofcom?
I think the only solution here is to cancel the contract with BT and start a new account with Talk Talk and just get a new phone number.
Don't think you have a case for Ofcom, as you are trying to switch from a business line to residential and TalkTalk are not really targeting business customers.
