Hi all,
just a query to see if i am the only one having problems? Im on a fairly basic tariff with bt, but i am too far from the exchange so at best i get 2 mb/s, usually it hovers around the 1mb mark. While i understand that living in a rural area means this is likely to happen, i dont see why i should be paying for 'up to 17mb/s'. especially when i then pay for a youview box which as on demand facilities, facilities which having spoken to a bt engineer need at least 2mb/s in order to play smoothly. And added to that my box has now just packed up on me and died for no obvious reason. Bt will not believe me and need to send an engineer out to check it, fine, but only in a vague 3 hour time slot during the day when im at work so thats a no go. Does anybody think its worth trying to get this sorted or is it worth just paying the cancellation fees and switching?
You don't need to pay cancelation fees when BT can't fulfil its contract. To be on the safe side, book an engineer visit, chances are he won't show up, or if he does, he probably won't be able to fix it. This then should be sufficient ground to terminate your contract without paying a cancelation fee.
After that, if you really need to continue with a landline, use a provider with a better customer service, see e.g. www.ispreview.co.uk for a ISP user ratings. Or even better, if available, consider alternative wireless services.
