Hello all, 1st post here so bear with me! I do unofficial IT support for my local bar helping out with their wireless problems of which there are quite a few.
The bar is on two levels and the router a BT2701HGV is in the upstairs bar. There have been frequent disconnects with this router since it was installed, not disconnecting from the net but rather the router having to be rebooted to maintain the wireless connection. It has now started to reset back to factory settings each time it is rebooted which of course means entering all the wireless settings again. I assume this is not normal and the router is faulty?
I have temporarily replaced it with a spare Homehub3 I have as I use a Billion router at home. It connected to the net automatically and each time I try to enter the bar's username it tells me that as it is already connected and no further configuration is necessary. I'm a little worried that it will eventually disconnect as it is a Homehub connected to a business line with the wrong username? Should I be concerned?
The bar's ceiling is made of concrete slabs so setting up a wired access point downstairs to improve the frankly pathetic BT2701HGV wireless range is out of the question. The Homehub has far better wireless performance! So I am also looking for suggestions as to the best homeplug solution. I'm thinking a wireless homeplug in the downstairs bar would solve the poor wireless reception from the BT2701HGV upstairs. Has anyone tried these in a business setting?
Thanks
Jerry

Home and bar. Two different places and two different BT accounts.
I am now looking for information as to whether the original faulty 2701 (provided BT let us keep it once they replace it with a new router) would be best as a WAP or whether I would be best junking the 2701 (again providing BT let us keep it) and using the Homehub3 as the WAP.
Using the Hub3 (as modem and router) >>> Home Plug >>> Mome Plug >>> 2701 (as WAP) >>> Player and Network is fine. You can leave the Hub3 with wirelss turned on so onyone upstairs will be able to use it too.
It is almost certainly a fault ... get onto support and get a replecament which should be a BH3 which is similar to the HH.
If you are able to reatin teh faulty unit and the wirelss side is OK, then it will serve as the WAP. Personally, I would find a way yo run a cable (up to 100m) rather than using the HomePlugs.
Thanks for that. I will pass the information on. I assume the 2wire2701 is no longer being supplied and the business home hub is being supplied instead? I also take from your post that the 2701 can be used as an access point only? If so then that would certainly sort a lot of problems re wireless coverage.

As far as I know you are correct - they only time a 2701 will be suplied is if a customer uses the VOIP breakout.
There is a sticky post about converting a 2700/01 into a WAP.
We have now got a homeplug set up and its being used to stream music from a server upstairs to a player downstairs so we do at least have some sort of connection from the downstairs bar to the router upstairs.
So next question...when we get the 2701 router replaced would it be best to try and set it up as a WAP or would the Homehub be easier? The homeplug has only one network port so if I use it as the wired connection to the WAP can I then use one of the other ethernet ports as a connection to the player?
In other words the set up would be-
Router upstairs to homeplug upstairs
Homeplug upstairs to homeplug downstairs
Homeplug downstairs to WAP downstairs
Ethernet cable from WAP to player downstairs
I hope that's clear!
"I have temporarily replaced it with a spare Homehub3 I have as I use a Billion router at home."
I just want to verify on that. Are you using more than one wireless router at home? If so, there might be a channel interference here. Make sure to use channels 1.6 and 11 to isolate any interference issues.
Not quite sure where you are coming from here. My original post was about my local bar and me replacing their faulty 2wire 2701 with a spare Homehub3 router I had left over from my original home Infinity install.

Why do you, like others insist that only 1,6 and 11 are the only acceptable set?
You are WRONG (again) as 1, 5, 9, 13 or 2, 6, 10 &c will give non interfering sets of wireless.

Thanks for your help with this. I'm just waiting for BT to swap out the old router and then I will give the WAP idea a go.
