Hi,
We're a fairly small business, about 5 extensions, and we're looking at purchasing a BT Versatility PBX, however I was wondering if it would be possible to set it up to solely use SIP trunks instead of analogue lines?
I know that the V8 phones have 4 line keys, and also that the VoIP trunks are allocated extension 15x/16x on the system, so is it possible to override this and make them the main trunks?
We have no need for using our fixed line for calls, and in fact it would make more sense for us to route all our calls solely over our VoIP provider, as the rates are far cheaper.
ISDN rates are just too expensive for us to justify, and having multiple lines will be the same.
I would like to add the Analogue line as a fail-over should the ADSL link fail, is this possible too?
So, the actual question is, is this something that the Versatility can do? I know I have to have the Broadband Module, but would it matter whether I had the Broadband Module, or the Broadband Module Plus?
We process between 1 and 4 calls simultaneously (usually at the lower end, 1-2, with a peak to 4 during busy times) and our SIP trunk provider does not have any limits on simultaneous calls.
Or would it be necessary to make VoIP default to buy some ATAs and connecting them as if they were POTS lines to the PBX? I'd rather not do this as it'll involve more hardware and more room for error and degradation of call quality...
Thanks for your help 🙂
Joe
Have you contacted BT support team about this matter?

I haven't, no.. I take it this would be necessary?
Hi Joe, did you get the info you require ?
I used to run a small business using my Versatility. It had three V-IP phones (from BT) as extensions at the main office/workshop with the Versatility at my home. BT said I MUST have extension 20 (the main phone) wired into the Versatility because certain changes and settings can only be done by that extension and it must be the full spec phone for the Versatility. I had two ANALOGUE lines into the Versatility, one of which carries the broadband. I have a broadband plus module but I believe the standard BBM will only accept 2 VOIP phones. I think my system was operating just as you want yours to function. I removed the V-IP phones a couple of years ago because the business closed down with me in semi-retirement but just recently I have a need for two of them again and they now won't find the BBM (but that's another story and nobody will tell me what to do about it).
