Once again, our web site is down.
Also unable to get into the back office.
Frustration!!
We are fortunate to have Kingston Communications as our telephone system provider.
How do the rest of you cope having to use BT?
We had an interesting experience this week.
We are an all-BT business (phones, broadband, hosting, e-mail).
We can get into our e-mail; from aroud the planet.
The best-ever broadband speed we get is Mbps - usually Mbps;
BT doesn't currently plan fibre broadband in our road - shame, because I'd be the second (after the guinea-pig!) to sign up.
We have paid BT, since the last century, to host our domain names and to provide e-mail for our e-mail addresses on the domain name.
We used BT tradespace to put up a very simple default web-page for our URL, with a link to our e-mail and a contact land-line number.
BT have done this flawlessly for years, including two occasions when we've relocated.
We discovered that e-mails were not getting through - "No MX or A records for (our domainname).com"
More worryingly, entering our URL revealed "no website" message.
BT chat for technical problems does not work at weekends - it seems to be a "Mon-Fri 9-5" outfit.
Monday morning - chat with support; very helpful (once I got into the right queue!)
I was told that Network Solutions manage our domain (OK, so how come OUR entry at Network Solutions has pointers to BT DNS servers, which was set up WITHOUT our involvement years ago?
How come we're paying BT to host the website and domain name?.
I manually changed the DNS entries at Network solutions to the NEW entries provide by BT.
Within an hour, our e-mails started coming though and the website was visible against our domain name.
Question - has someone in the bowels of BT messed up a network config around April 16th 2010??????
Did they bring a new suite of Domain Name servers on-stream without planning the background moves of DNS entries?
Did some BT technical muppet decide to "clean-up" or "housekeep" the DNS entries in our domain entries which were set up about ten years ago when he/she was probably still in school?
One foul-up in ten years does not justify moving, but what have I been paying for?????
