XML Sitemap

Me again! I've created an XML Sitemap for my website and according to all the info I come across it needs to be 'dropped' into my index file. I am concerned that I could quite easily make a mess of it all if I put it in the wrong place.

Where exactly do I put it?

The same goes for the html sitemap.

Not sure if this is the best advice, I haven't done a sitemap before but it doesn't look like anyone else is jumping in so I'll give it a shot. I looks like this http://sitemaps.org/protocol.php is a good place to start. From what I can tell it should go before the tag and in tags. I don't really code though, so your guess may be as good as mine.
