Hi all.
I use Dreamweaver to develop a small site which I upload to my free 50MB BT web space. Everything works fine when I ftp from Dreamweaver.
However, how do I access my files directly on the BT server? I just want to delete some garbage directly on the server.
I can go to 'Manage Services', get redirected to BT hosting site, click on ftp, get through username/pwd.
I then see the FTP root and the links to public, private, cgi-bin folders, etc. However, when I try to click on, say, 'public', hoping to see my file structure, it takes me to ftp://btconnecthosting.com/public/ and Internet Exporer gives an error "cannot display the webpage".
I have also tried the option to open FTP in Windows Explorer. However, i then get an FTP Folder Error 'no such file or directory'.
Any thoughts out there?
thx, russellt
BT Bus hosting support answered my question. Apparently i need to use an FTP client like Filezilla or the Dreamweaver remote connection to view my files. Can't be done in a browser. I'm surprised, but at least the question is answered.
Actually, if you FTP using Windows Explorer, click through the error, then select "Login As.." from the File menu, it will allow FTP acceses. you should also be able to use a web based client such as: http://net2ftp.com
Beyond that, use the File Manager from the Website centre:
What is the Website Centre and how do I access it?
It's a bit "old school" but for renaming or deleting one file at a time or simple webspace management tasks, it's very useful.
