adding a router

Hello,

I have a standard 2 wire gateway router on adsl. I live in a stone farmhouse and I cannot get a wireless signal in the other half of the house. I do have a telephone socket in the 'dead' side and I was wondering if I could connect another router and if I did so would they conflict. Perhaps another 2 wire isn't necessary, so what would somebody recommend.

Thank you.

You can only have ONE modem connected to the phone line and I mean connected.   Having two modems (the hub has a modem front end) connected even with one turned off would create a conflict or unneccessary loading.

Get a Cat5e cable wit RJ45 connectors at both end and run that from te existing to the new loaction and but a 2700 from ebay - set it up at described in the sticky post above and you will have further coverage.

If you want to do it "properly",  get an RJ45 socket on a standard faceplate with back box - from a DIY shed or similar and wire Cat5e cable from there to a similar box at the other end.   Then a short patch lead from the socket to router.

If you need me to "hold you hand though it" it is no real problem.

Hi. Just in case you have plenty of time to learn more on this. Check out this link. It would give you the basics of wireless networking.
