benefits of business broadband?

Hi all - I'm new here so sorry if this is a mickey mouse question, but I can't seem to get a clear answer.

 

Currently I work a bit at home and our home broadband is mostly fine, but struggles if 2 of us happen to have a couple of things open and are skyping etc...

... so I'm keen to switch to fibre broadband (in theory available here in Putney on my exchange, as of next week).

But its seems the most reliably fast way to take a fibre package is if its a "business" version (because your traffic gets priority).

 

I plan to work a lot more from home and so does my partner - possibly both full time - so I want to know what is the benefit of swapping our home broadband to "business broadband".

Clearly the cheapest deals for "unlimited" are more expensive on business bb, so I want to understand what "priority at times of contention" really means.

 

I understand the concept, but what honestly are the extra guarantees?

ie without speciifics, its a very easy and nice thing to say (for marketing) but how is the difference between business and home broadband measurable?

(in both regular and fibre versions)

 

I'm keen to take the faster upload version of fibre, but equally important for me is to get priority bandwidth, especially at the busiest times of day, when domestic customers internet often slows down.

 

Any thoughts on how this "priority" is given and measurable?

Hi, I'm, on Putney exchange too and switched to BT business fibre this morning. Smooth changeover and moved from 1.7mb Plusnet ADSL to 35mb DS and .17 to 1.7mb US so pleased on that front. Very dissapointed the BT "Business" router doesn't support Wireless n - watch out! Ive had to connect my old router as a wireless access point.

 

I saw some BT burb which said you have zero contention at exchange, but may have some contention nationally at peak times.  Early days yet
