Good morning planet bt, my website has gone awol. I'm a complete novice at this so its probably something obvious I'm missing. I published the website www.kelvinwindow-cleaning.co.uk , 3 weeks ago and registered it with the search engines but there's still no sign of it. Each time try to get help from bt I end up with a salesperson who has little technical expertise. Can anyone out there help? If you see my website can you tell it to come home, I'm missing it.
Solved! Go to Solution.
It all depends on the method you used.
The files have not been publised to the domain itself yet and would therefore not be referenced, so I would recommend that you re-register.
If you used our tools when you were logging in to the free space then any registration would only apply to the generic free address listed on my first post.
Since the files have now been moved and are now located correctly, when published they are in the correct place to be referenced by a search engine.
There are many ways to register and improve your search engine rankings so it's not something I can provide a hugely comprehensive answer on in the forum.
You can find plenty of good advice by searching the term "Search engine optimisation" on the internet.
Hope this helps

Hi David,
I believe your issue is that you have designed the site on the free space which we offer as part of your account.
The site you have built is showing at: http://home.btconnect.com/3htims2divad1
This is accessible on the same page as the hosting you are paying for but is separate.
In the meantime we can point your domain: kelvinwindow-cleaning.co.uk to the free address listed above which will result in the site displaying but because the site has been constructed on the free space it will not exist in the correct place.
If you log into your account, and click on Manage Services, under the Web Hosting section click on Manage your website and Online stores, then click on Manage kelvinwindow-cleaning.co.uk.
This takes you to the BT Website Centre and you can access your web hosting tools from there.
Click on the Site Builders tab and then Easy Site Wizard Pro on the left hand menu and follow the steps and this will allow you to publish your site directly on to your domain.
If you require any further assistance or advice, please get back to me.
Thanks
Colin
Hi Colin, thanks for your reply. I followed all the procedure you outlined but all I kept getting was a blank wizard screen with the message, No existing sites found. Please create a new one. Any suggestions as to where I go from here or do I have to start again? I disabled the pop up blocker on a couple of occasions but it made no difference.
Thanks
David
Hi David,
The issue is that you have constructed the site by following the links to your free space, rather than the link which leads to your web hosting. This is why no site shows when you log in to the correct place.
The first option would be to start from scratch and construct your site on your web hosting rather than on the free space. You can point your domain to the free address in the meantime whilst this is built to allow the site to display online.
The second option is to send me a private message with the password you set for the free space (you would have set this just before accessing the web builder tool and is not the same as the password you use to login initially).
This will allow me to log into the space and attempt to copy the site you have built on the free space over to the web hosting space where it should be. This will avoid starting over and also mean you can edit the site and publish it in the correct place.
Please let me know how you want to proceed.
Thanks
Hi Colin, how do I send you a private message?
David
Hi David,
Just click on my username to the left of this message.
This takes you to my profile page.
On the right in the contact box, click on Send a Private Message.
If you provide the password you set when you first accessed the web site builder then I can log into the server which holds your page and attempt to transfer it over to your hosting pack.
Thanks again
Hello again,
I have successfully moved the website across to web hosting pack for you.
If you log and make sure to click on the Manage kelvinwindow-cleaning.co.uk link from the web hosting page you will be logging in to the correct place.
The site you constructed is now present and can be edited and publised directly to your domain.
I have made no changes except transferring it across, so if you would like to log in and if satisfied with the site, click publish and you will be online.
Thanks
Thanks Colin, just one last question, will I need to register it again with the search engines?
It all depends on the method you used.

Hi there
I seem to have done exactly the same as the user above with my site "sundogs.org.uk". I created this a few weeks ago and it works fine viewing from any browser, but .....
When I login and look to edit my site it says it does not exist and only offers my the choice of creating a new one.
any chance you could please have a look and tell me what's wrong.
If I have inadvertently created this in an area I shouldn't have done then i'm baffled, as I thought I followed the instructions after I bought the webhosting package from BT.
any help greatly appreciated
Damian
