can there be a server related area?

i have good experience with server 2000 + 2003 so could help out alot there. i also have issues that i cant find an immediate solution to so it would be good to have somewhere to turn to so i could ask advice and give advice.

its just that im losing interest in the forum since its the same stuff being posted mostly and i have better things to do.

Hi Alastair

Thank you for your suggestion for a new board for advanced or server issues. We have reviewed this, and have decided it would be more beneficial to keep the number of boards to a minimum and have all questions relating to networks continue to be posted in the 'Broadband and Internet' board, Server questions could also be posted here or in 'Other Products and Services'.

Thanks Again.

Kind Regards

I agree, I mean most people likely to talk about servers et al really won't post in the other forums for fear going off topic etc.

On the subject of the amount of sub-forums haven't they sprawled a fair bit already?

hmmm, i need to find a new forum then.

Experts-Exchange is a viable option but i dont like the look and feel of the site so haven't bothered with it... yet

Yeah I tried Experts Exchange wasn't really a fan, tried techguy also. It had a few advanced things.

I've been meaning to check out the Zen and Plusnet forums and find out what they're like.

If you do find anything that looks good, let me know.

Experts Exchange is probably the best support site on the net just now.  Only problem I have with it is that you need to pay for a subsrciption to be able to post which sucks.

But for solutions it's awesome.

I did manage to get a free subscription when they where doing an offer ages ago and they haven't bothered cancelling it, yay for me.

My problem with Experts Exchange is its not really a back and forth or discussion. I get the feeling I'm doing the job of an idiot IT guys who really shouldn't have whatever job they have.

How does someone get a job in IT without having any idea how to do their job duties? Its one thing to ask for help troubleshooting a particular issue, but it's quite another to ask how to even start working on a major project or for a step by step guide.

Thats the feeling I get from it anyway.

As a deeper issue, is the expanding presence of online tech support sites and forums responsible for keeping the uneducated and inexperienced IT professional wanna-be, ever-man-and-his-dog-can-do-IT, I-use-MSN-how-hard-can-this-be IT guy employed? Do they know just enough to fool the employer at the interview?
