the domain+e-mail package at 2.95 per year

CK

Hi

I have created a website through the GBBO initiative and already registered with btconnect. But because it is free, I do not get e-mail ids with my domain name...

I want to now register for the 2.95 per year package and get e-mail ids on my domain name... Am not up and running yet and do not want to go for the web hosting packages yet. But when I try to click on the offer on the BT connect homepage, it keeps redirecting me to web hosting packages page. Can someone guide me how I can go about registering for the 2.95 per year package and get my domain based e-mail ids?

Sorry if its silly, but I really tried to sort it out myself and just could not figure out a way

Hi CK,

You are not able to remove the domain simply because of the way domains work.

When you register a domain it stays in existence for the time you have registered it for, for example 2 years.

The only time you would be able to re-register as new would be after the 2 year term when it would expire.

So, what I would advise you to do is either, wait for 60 days and transfer your domain to BT Business, which I have since learned also offer the £2.95 per year fee for transferring in - more info here: http://business.bt.com/domains-and-web-hosting/web-hosting/web-hosting-packages/switch

Or, register a brand new domain with ourselves, if urgent and you can always transfer you GBBO domain later if you like.

Hope that helps,

Colin

Hi CK,

The £2.95 per year offer is for new domain registrations only, see more information here - http://business.bt.com/domains-and-web-hosting/domains?s_intcid=btb_intbtn_online_deals_ViewDetails_...

You can register a new domain with BT Business and you will be able to create email addresses on your account which follow the format of your domain name, for example info@yourdomain.co.uk as detailed in your post.

As you have registered your free domain with GBBO the domain cannot be moved to another provider, including ourselves at BT Business for 60 days, and if you do choose to transfer in it will be subject to the standard transfer in fee.

After 60 days you can contact GBBO to have your IPS tag changed to BTNAMES and then request a transfer in to BT Business (as we are a completely seperate line of business).

If you require further assistance or advice, please call the helpdesk on 0845 600 7020 - choose option 2 and ask for the Value Added Services desk.

Thank you

Hi touman

That is by far the most useful solution I have received in my attempts to find one over the last couple of days. Thank you for that!!!

Is it possible that I can get my domain name removed from GBBO and then create it again with BT Business as soon as it becomes available ? IF yes, would you know how long would it normally take to get a domain name becoming available again?

Another question as well..... Is it possible to get my domain transferred with the help of BT business? What is the fee for the transfer in service ?

Thanks Colin... If there is something I can do to provide my feedback on your service, please let me know and I shall do that.. I will go with your advice....wait for 60 days and then get it transferred

When I get it transferred, will there be any transfer in fee?

You are welcome CK,

If you would like to send in feedback please send an email to: hosting.support@btbroadbandoffice.com.

There will be a transfer in fee, in line with the charges detailed for registering a new domain.

If you check out the second link provided and put in your domain, it will advise of the transfer fee.  There is also a helpline number provided so you can speak directly to the guys who process your order.

Thanks again

CK.. you should be able to set up the email addresses through your BT account without needing to transfer the domain or pay extra. This is a relatively new thing that BT are offering and I am pretty sure you don't need web hosting if you only want to use your domain for email

Try this:

Log into your account, click on 'manage Services

1. On the domains section, click the link 'Use an externally hosted domain with BT Email or Web hosting'

2. Enter your domain name in here.

3. Follow the instructions on the following page regarding the MX record. Ignore the part about A record. You will need to make these changes in the GBBO console:

http://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10607/c/1995,2000,2033/

4. Leave it 24 hours or so and click the link in your BT account to confirm the domain. If it is unable to verify, keep trying as it can take a bit of time before it recognises the domain changes.

You should then be able to set up 'email aliases' in the same manner as any other BT customer.
