The BT Versatility phone system is no longer supported by BT Business. Support ended on 30 September 2025, and we won't update this page if anything changes with the product.
If you're looking for a replacement system, check out our full range of cloud-based phone systems.
We've brought our BT Versatility voicemail help together in one post. It covers checking whether your system has voicemail, listening to messages remotely, and increasing the number of rings before calls go to voicemail.
Checking your system has voicemail
Voicemail isn't standard on all BT Versatility systems. To check if your system has it:
- Select the Message key on a Featurephone.
- Select Voice messaging. If voicemail isn't on your system, you'll get an invalid message. If it is, you'll get a voice prompt to enter the mailbox number.
- Press Hands-free or replace the receiver to clear.
As the product is no longer supported, voicemail can't be added to a system that doesn't have it.
Accessing voicemail messages remotely
You can access voicemail messages remotely, even from a mobile. If you have Direct Dialling In (DDI) numbering on each extension that has a mailbox, ring in via your DDI number. If your voice mailbox is turned on, you can access your messages remotely.
When your call has been answered by your mailbox greeting:
- Access your voicemail by dialling 711.
- Enter your extension number. If accessing the system voicemail box, dial 0.
- Enter your voicemail password, then press #. The default is 1111.
Then dial the following to manage your mailbox:
- 1 - start playback at the first message.
- 91 - change the outgoing greeting.
- 92 - check the outgoing greeting.
- 93 - delete the outgoing greeting.
- 0 - change your voicemail password.
Once playback has started, dial:
- # - pause playback.
- 2 - save this message and move to the next.
- 3 - erase this message and move to the next.
- 4 - go back to the start of the message.
- 5 - go back to the previous message.
- 6 - erase all messages.
- 7 - go back 10 seconds.
- 8 - go forward 10 seconds or skip the time stamp.
- 9 - forward the message to another extension.
Need more rings before calls go to voicemail?
If your phones only ring three times before going to voicemail, you can extend this:
- If you're using the system voicemail box, extend the System Voicemail box delay timer.
- If you're using extension or group mailboxes, change the Divert on No Answer timer.
