I wondered if anyone can suggest a replacement for our 2 wire router, that I am convinced is the 'source of all evil' in our internet connection.
As well as using this connection for general office internet use, we also connect to a mitel phone system from remote offices using VOIP through this router, so I don't know if there is anything 'special' about this router - ie it is not a simple 'buy a different router, put the userid and password in, and good to go' set up.
With my limited knowledge, I am assuming I can use any 'decent' router, and in addition to the above settings, as long as I copy across the additional Static Routes I sould be ok.
I guess my question is 'is there anything special about a 2 wire router'?
Thanks in advance
Bill
does the lack of replies imply there is NO substitution for the 2 wire router?
Just my two pennies worth, the lack of replies is probably just due to sheer lack of activity & support on these forums, unlike the much busier BT Retail community forum.
In addition to any static routes, I would suggest you check if any firewall/port forwarding rules have been set up, I think they should be visible under the 'Status' tab.
The only other thing that makes the BT 2wire hub special, is they provide Openzone wifi hotspot. If you don't use or don't wish to provide this service to the public, then you can indeed use any different non-BT modem router of your choice.
great, the last paragraph I guess is what I wanted to hear (the openzone bit I always thought was a bit 'cheeky' - expecially as I seem to remember (althougth it was a long time ago), that this defautled to 'on')
