ADSL2+ upgrade - only getting 8Mbps

Hi folks,

I was upgraded to an ADSL2 line on July 15 but my speed has only increased from about 6 Mbps to 7.9Mbps. I understand there is a 10 day learning period which should now be over.

My router is a Linksys WAG160N and have changed my settings to the ones on the Linksys website

I have upgraded the firmware to the latest available (V1.00.16)

Can you help?

Thanks

Mike

Hi,

If you go to Sam Knows what does it give you for your line and postcode?

It may be that your profile hasn't set properly after the 10 days and might need reset.  There is also the possibility that your line has issues.

In either case I would suggest calling the Helpdesk and have them run some diagnostics, although you should always try changing the microfilter, resetting the router, etc. first.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Dave,

Thanks for your reply.

I tried a brand new microfilter (as opposed to one of my spares) and the bandwidth immediately jumped from 7.9 to 8.6Mbps on rebooting the router.

I'll leave it a few days to see if it starts its "re-learning", then I'll contact the help desk.

Didn't have much luck with Sam Knows though.

What are the attenuation and SNR/margin figures for your line?    You may well be at teh maximum achievable rate for your line.
