We just moved to BT Business Broadband and installed the BT Business HUB 3. I’m a puzzled by an DNS issue with my SBS 2003 and hope someone could help.
I’ll try to explain the setup:
One static public IP from BT: 40.x.x.x.
Router setting: (now BT HUB3) DHCP is disabled and a static IP: 192.168.222.1 is assigned.
Two NICs on SBS 2003:
NIC 1 for the LAN:
IP: 192.168.1.10
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.
DNS: 192.168.1.10
NIC 2 for the WAN (connected to HUB 3)
IP: 192.168.222.10
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.
Default gateway: 192.168.222.1
DNS: 192.168.1.10
The above settings are recommended settings that worked fine with my previous ISP using a Netgear router. However, since switched to BT and BT HUB 3, there is no internet access on the LAN workstations using the above settings, I have to change the DNS of NIC 2 to 192.168.222.1 (HUB’s IP) to make the internet working (for LAN workstations). Can anyone advise why the original recommened setings (DNS) is not working with BT HUB? Although the modified setting is working, I’m concerned that this “non-standard” DNS setting may cause problems in the long run.
Many thanks for your help.
