BT Hosted Voip

NewmanAgent
Member

I have ordered a new business line and broad band and asked for 2 voip lines at the same time. I have realised that I meant to order hosted voip rather than the  "ordinary Voip" apparently I need a minimum of 3 lines for hosted which is fine I can have 3  lines instead of 2. But i cannot get to speak to anybody who knows how to amend the order. I have now phoned 5 times and had 2 ringbacks and still I am no further forward in getting this resloved. It seems to me that most of the rest of BT don't understand VOIP. Does anybody have a contact number that they think might be able to help with this? The technical VOIP people say than can only help with issues once the service is up and running.

If anybody with hosted voip wants to comment on how good or otherwise the service is that would be great.

Thank you.

Thank you for getting involved in this thread. A week on and I am still not where I need to be. My mobile is (removed bt moderator) or home is (removed by moderator). (removed by moderator) is an open reach reference and this is another ref I had (removed by moderator) . Both these are for the same provision of a business line and total broadband. And the engineer called yesterday and confirmed the provided of the line. I asked if broadband was also functioning and he confirmed it was. The shop is undergoing a shopfit and so I can't yet connect the router to check for myself. I have heard nothing about the hosted voip service I ordered separately from my local business team in Plymouth  Coastel I think (removed by moderator). There ia a guy called (removed by moderator) who is supposed to be dealing but he says the broadband is being provided separately and cannot give me any info about when. The main issue is I need to know the number that will ring all the the 3 voip lines I have installed together so that I can have my shop signs and letterheads sorted. This is the number my customers will need to call. This is why I need the voip side of things to be progressed. The number that went live yesterday is (removed by moderator).

I hope you can help.

Regards

The previous message was for SC who asked me to private message him my contact details. I don't know how to private message so I replied to the message instead realising that posting my private numbers was a risk but hoping that a moderator would take note of them and then remove them after contacting me about the issue. As nobody has contacted me I assume the moderator just removed the contact numbers and did nothing else. Frustrating!! I am sorry if its obvious how to private message a moderator but I can't see how to do it. Perhaps someone can let me know? Also if my original problem can be picked up I would be very grateful. I still don't have a hosted voip service. My suspicion is my BT local business team (Actually a company called coastel who operate on behalf of BT with commission hungry but generally clueless sales people) have tried to provide the hosted voip on my residential line instead of my business line. It would be very helpful to be able to order Hosted voip direct from BT proper but I can't see a channel to do that with. Another thread on the general feedback forum asked this question but didn't get anywhere. The voip you can order online is not the hosted type. Help!!

Thanks you faithfoundation for your help. I had clicked on the avatar of the BT employess but I couldn't see the private message link. Even with your input I was still gazing at the page for ages before seeing the link. If anybody else needs to know it is in small writing in the green "Contact" box after having clicked on the forum members name.

Having worked out how to private message SC the BT employee I see that he hasn't been registered on the system since Thursday. He maybe on annual leave or working in another dept. Do any of you other BT employees who monitor these forums pick up messages sent to individual employees who are away from work? If so great, I hope you respond soon. If not could someone who is looking after this forum make themselves known to me so that I can private message them instead. Sadly it seems that the only place to get hosted voip is through the regional local business companies ( as mentioned before, actually separate companies operating under the BT logo, mine is in Plymouth and called Coastel). So I am forced to deal with them again. I spoke to them this morning and pointed out that they had been trying to provide VOIP on my residential line. I had got a manager involved on Friday but he couldn't have looked at the issue very closely as he would have realised the mistake. I'll let you know how this pans out. The over riding issue is that I can't advertise my business until I know the number I will have. I hope hosted voip is worth it when, if ever, this is sorted.

Just thought I would record another development here. Somehow sharing my frustration with the ether helps. A little.

When I had the proper BT business line provided on Wednesday morning (By the way this was 5 days later than the original appointment but 1 day earlier than the revised appointment) The telephone number the engineer gave me was different to the number on the order. I didn't think too much of this because all the way through the process I have been warned that numbers can't be confirmed until the line is actually supplied. 5 minutes ago I had an email saying "congratulations your BT total broadband service has been activated on telephone number 01726 *****". You've guessed it, the number quoted is the number on the order. Not the number that actually rings the phone in my new shop. So now where am I? I rang one of the numbers on the email "extra help in your first month". He seemed very bemused. All the correct info was against the order number telephone number but against the actual phone number there was nothing. He says "order management is you best bet". I am now in a queue. I have been for 27 minutes. The place shuts at 6.00pm. I have told the BT local business company that they need to provide the hosted voip on the telephone number the engineer gave me, the one that rings the phone. But when they look at that number there will be no information that there is even broadband on the line. Should I tell them about the order number telephone number even though that number doesn't ring anywhere? I'm still on hold. 31 minutes now........35 minutes now, which is an improvement of sorts. Last time I was on hold it only rang for 19 minutes before cutting off. But they are very busy at the moment. Coming up to 40 minutes. I'll think I'll admit defeat. Obviously my call won't be answered as soon as possible. I'll just go away and gently rock in a corner.

Amazingly, at the very moment of pressing "post" on the previous entry, they answered! 41 minutes on hold. The helpful lady says my records have now been updated linking my broadband to the new number and she is very sorry that didn't happen automatically. If she is is right then I guess that deals with that small sub query in my great BT hosted voip adventure.
