Bad ISDN line

We use ISDN 2e lines between 3 offices in the UK to a customer with two lines in Jersey. It has worked well for a number of years. We use dialup networking on Windows XP to connect to RRAS server on a Windows 2000 Server. We use callback for security.

Recently (last month or so) we have found that it either refuses to dial or refuses to call back - Windows error indicates possible noisy line ?? Another windows screen shows several line errors occurring per session.  So when it does connect, it is very slow.

We have tried the obvious - different client computers, different servers, different terminal adapters, new connectoids, moving away from power cables, getting BT to test the line (all fine), getting Jersey Telecom to test the line (all fine). Yet we still have a problem.

We're pretty sure the fault is outside the office since the symptoms change without us changing anything. We can also connect to Jersey from two other sites in the UK with no problems (with callback). It is only our site in Crewkerne, Somerset that has the problem.

The line works (I won't say perfectly, but a lot more reliably) if we use an account without callback.   Is it possible that the line specifically between Jersey and our office in Crewkerne, Somerset can have a fault (when the call is initiated from Jersey) when no fault shows up anywhere else ??

Please don't suggest calling the BT fault reporting service, Jersey Telecoms, or the narrow band tech support in India who I've found to be less than helpful.

Hi baldrick69,

Sorry to read about the problems you are having.

From what you describe the error as, it does sound as if there is a fault on the line. Instead of calling the faults team on 0800 800 152, you can report a Fault Online.

Hope this helps

How do you report an ISDN fault online?  That link leads me to reporting a landline fault which says that it doesn't deal with ISDN, or a broadband fault which I can't see option for reporting online.

Are BT still supporting ISDN lines?

Hi,

Im afraid in that case you can report a fault on any of the BT Fault reporting options.

Hope this helps

Ok.  I think I've been through all methods of fault reporting now.

I shall be recommending to my company that all BT accounts be dropped at the earliest opportunity in favour of a telecomms company that provides some support for it's customers.

Hi, I would get a local telphone engineer to come out to site and test the isdn line with his tester and this will prove if it is a BT fault or not.

Any telephone system installation company should carry isdn 2 test equipment.
