Ok - I already have BT looking into this, but they say its something they need to refer to the epages team (I wish they had chosen a product that was supported in the UK).
Type in the website name and it takes you to my shop - great so far. But when you register as a site member and complete the relevant form an email is sent to user which asks them to click on the complete registration link back to the shop.
But the url instead of reading http://www.shopname.co.uk
it reads
BT say its nothing to do with the known btowstore issue - but im sure I can't be alone in witnessing this issue.
Has anyone else met with a similar problem - and if so has it been resolved?
Thanks in advance
It is caused because it is an https link (ie a secure page).
Since BT doesn't allow custom SSL certificates on the epages platform, all secure pages need to be viewed through the shared btowstore.com domain.
At the moment I don't think there is anything you can do about this.
IF they ever do start allowing custom SSL, it will mean all the shop owners like yourself would need to shell out for a SSL certificate, and remember to renew it every year. I guess they thought it would be easier just to use a shared SSL certificate.
Hi Dave - thanks for the quick reply. From what you imply this would cause all eshop owners to have the same problem? If thats not the case why is it only causing a problem on my site - as the package comes with SSL built in - any thoughts?
I would say that yes, other shop owners will also see this. It is there by design rather than being a fault with your shop.
SSL is included but only on the www.btowstore.com domain, which is why the checkout pages, and all other pages delivered over SSL have this domain.
As I mentioned previously, if BT were to allow you to have SSL on your own domain name, it would need an expensive certificate to be bought every year by the domain name owners (and I doubt BT would include this in the price of your shop), and set up on the server.
