FTP problems - folder view

Hi, can someone advise; I can update my website using my laptop, i.e. get through to ftp folders and copying files etc, however when using my desktop I can only get to the FTP Root folders which are not in folder view and I can not open the links shown.

I have looked at IE tools/options and the folder view option for ftp files is checked???

Any help please.

That sounds like a login failure, or possibly a permissions error on that folder. The only thing I can suggest, besides of course verifying your user name and password (they should be the same ones you use to access the website OS), is to try an ftp client, the link to download filezilla is at filezilla-project.org, you would want the "client" as opposed to the "server." Once you open the program it should have a spot for host, user and password, you would use the same user and password you've been trying in IE and windows explorer and the hostname is your domain name, so the same as your user name.

I'm not sure on the options for IE but you can access your FTP a little easier through windows explorer. Try entering ftp://yourdomainname.co.uk@yourdomainname.co.uk into the file path/address bar on the top of the windows explorer program, replacing "Yourdomainname.co.uk" with your actual domain name. This should connect you to your ftp with a slightly smoother interface. Alternatively you could download a free ftp client like Filezilla.

Hi, thanks for the advice ; have tried using windows explorer with the following message:

"An error occured on the ftp server, make sure you have permission to access that folder"

200 type set to A

227 entering passive mode (209,235,144,9,199,133)

550 No such file or directory

What I can't understand is I use the exact same process on my laptop and get access without problems and simply drag and drop to overwrite in the ftp directories?
