IP Profile has dropped to 2mb

Have had BT broadband business and domestic for many years.  We are in country, but 200 yards from exchange and always had ADSL speed of ~6.5 on business and ~3 on domestic Broadband.   Since Christmas have noticed slow download on both lines and investigation shows sync at 8mb down, 440k up, 9db SNR, 3dB loop attenuation, and IP profile at 2MB.  How do we get this reset / reviewed?  The automated fault check simply says that 2MB Profile is correct.. sorry I don't accept that.

Who do we call to get these reset?  I appreciate it will put us back into the 10 day cycle again, but we seem stuck right now.

Thanks for any pointers.

Hi,

There's usually a reason why the profile drops - something is causing the line to read as unstable, so the system lowers the profile to try to increase the stability. This is very common at this time of year with people getting new 'stuff' for Christmas.

If you have eliminated all possible causes of interference, then call the helpdesk and follow the diagnostics. When they get to the end of the process, ask for a SNR reset to be done on the line. This will, as you said, kick off the 10-day stabilisation process again.

Mandatory health warning: If you get them to kick off the stabilisation process, and if the interference source is still present, you could end up with worse performance than you currently have.
