Hi,
I have a basic BT hosting and email package.
I want to transfer out to an external hosting company, but I don't want to transfer the emails from the existing package to the new hosting.
In order for me to do this I need to set the nameserver details for the current BT account into the new hosting account.
I have been on the phone and chat to BT but they cannot supply me any information, which I find quite hard to believe.
Can anyone please help.
Kind regards
Ian Johnson

Hi Ian,
In order to do this, please use the nameserver re-point form at www.dnsforms.co.uk.
Fill out the form and select "yes" where it says - "Do you intend to use BT's mail servers once the name servers are changed?".
Once we make the changes you will need to ask your new host to point the "MX" record to ibmr.btconnect.com which will then allow you to contimue your mail service with BT.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
Can you please advise what New primary name server info would be in the form.
I am transfering the hosting to fasthosts, but as before want to retain the emails with BT and the nameserver at Fasthosts is ns1.livedns.co.uk.
When you are refering to the MX records do you mean the nameserver or as below?
DNS MX Record
I thought that I would just set the IPS Tag and the domain name to transfer out and go to the nameserver panel in Fasthosts and set the nameserver to ibmr.btconnect.com
I take it is not that simple then.
Many thanks

Hi Ian,
The nameserver re-point will mean we only point the nameservers for your domain to Fasthosts (ns1.livedns.co.uk and ns2.livedns.co.uk who then become responsible for your DNS settings including MX records, while the domain registration remains with BT).
The Mx records for Bt is as follows.
Hostname - @
Type - MX
Address - ibmr.btconnect.com
Priority - 10.
This needs to be set up on Fasthosts side once we change nameservers.
If you request a Tag change this means BT will no longer be responsible for your domain registration and DNS settings and everything will be handled by Fasthosts.
