You shouldn't need any software if your DVR allows you to access it from home.

Give your DVR a static IP address on your home network, eg 192.168.1.100

Then just open a port on the 2wire router to forward traffic to the DVR's IP address.

eg Port 45678 to forward to 192.168.1.100

You then access the DVR from anywhere using your external static IP address and the port number

eg. http://a.b.c.d:45678

To set up your static IPs, start with the block of 8 they've given you. The first and last IP address are not usable. The 2nd-to-last IP address is your 2Wire's address. Once you have that, go to the following web page on your 2Wire:

http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_1_1

At the bottom, click Enable on Add Additional Network, type the 2nd-to-last IP address from your block into the Router Address, and put 255.255.255.248 into the subnet mask. Leave Auto Firewall Open unchecked and click Save.

Now take one of the other 5 IP addresses in the block, and statically assign it to your server using the configuration tools on your server (this varies with the operating system). Once that's done, go back to the 2Wire at this page:

http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_3_1

There you need to configure your firewall for whatever applications this server is providing. Once that's done, you should be able to access your server on the service it's providing from the Internet on the static IP you chose.
