Number Porting Nightmare From Hell

Hi,

We're a small business that recently moved premises after being there for 18 years with the same phone number.
When we moved we decided to switch phone providers and also change from an ISDN based system to a hosted cloud service.

Problem is both our old provider and our new provider say they are in control of our phone number. The old provider says that if we cancel we will loose our number. They say this is because our new provider hasn't actioned the proper requests at their end.

This has now been going on for about 3 months with us paying 2 lots of phone bills. The new company don't seem 100% definite they have our number and they won't give any guarantees it won't be lost.

What do we do?

Is there some way we can get a 100% definite answer on this?

To lose our number after 18 years would be a disaster.

If anyone can help please it would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

This is far from what anyone should have to accept.

First off you need to understand who actually has your number and there are some tests and checks that you can do.

1) Ask both suppliers to provide the CDR's (call records) for their last bills

2) phone the number you want to keep from a BT landline, and a couple of different mobile carriers (EE, O2. .) and note down which phone system rings; old or new.

Then Private Message me with the results and the following:
A) name of old provider
B) number you need to keep
C) name of new provider
D) address number was originally installed (before move)
E) your new business address
F) best contact number for you

Kind regards,

Stuart
