Office 365 email "upgrade" and SMTP problems

I have many clients who use BT for their connectivity and email hosting. As far as I can tell, only one of about six clients were warned that the Email "upgrade" was happening at all. Four of them contacted me because their emails had stopped arriving, and it was only because I had been through this with other clients that I knew what was going on.

All of my clients simply want an email service that works, and have no need for all the pathetic "bells and whistles" that some noisy users appear to want. Why they weren't asked what they wanted as paying customers as well is beyond me. Still if BT have teamed up with Microsoft, another company that is famed for not listening to the smaller customers, this is hardly a surprise.

Out of all the clients of mine, only ONE has had any success with the SMTP settings provided. The other five have had to remain with the old mail.btconnect.com server as the new "improved" smtp.outlook.com one simply doesn't work. And that is MS Outlook 2007 and 2010, which we have been assured have "no issues". That is rubbish.

When is the SMTP issue going to be sorted so that it simply works as it should, or at least works as well as the server it is meant to be replacing?

I've never been angry enough to post on a forum before but having been downgraded to 365 by BT today, I just have to add my voice to the outcry on the way this process has been managed. I have Outlook 2007 and a domain name and a business to run. As of now, I have access to my emails only through an unfamiliar web portal with no access to contacts, personal folders or tasks. I have an Outlook 2007 with no new emails but gradually filling up with multiple copies of all my old inbox emails and some others. I also have a business that can no longer function properly.

I have eventually found a helpline number with a 24 hour callback promise. When I contact the user forum to try to see if we, BT customers, can help each other, I find dozens of folk more knowledgeable than me who are floundering to solutions to problems worse than mine.

What a foul up BT. Please sort out this SMTP problem (whatever that means) and, for us customers who are just users, tell me how to get my email service back to where it was before the imposed downgrade.

Hi,

I'm sorry you're both having problems with your email.

You'll need to contact the Helpdesk to get these issues raised and resolved.
