Hi All,
I’m trying to setup a VPN connection between my Office Dell PC and my home laptop. Both my office and home routers are BT 2700 HGV routers.
I have configured the Office Dell PC as the VPN server and my laptop as the VPN client.
I can make a VPN connection to the Office Dell PC but I can’t seem to map a drive or see any of the services on the Office Dell PC.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction. Also, could this be an IP addressing problem as both routers are the same make and model, if so, what do I need to do to resolve the problem.
Apologies if this question has been posted previously.

Hi
It is possibly an ip issue as by default both machines will be given 192.168.1.64 as the ip addresses. It would be worth trying to specify an ip address on both machines so that they have a different IP. If this doesn't work you would need to contact the IT Support Management team for help with this. They are a chargeable team but do offer a single point of contact for hardware, software, network, Wi-Fi and email issues.
I'm really sorry that the forum moderators can't assist further with this question, however some of our other forum members may be able to offer some further advice.
Kind Regards

Hi Kinga,
It will probably be due to the default gateway's on each router being the same. If you change the IP range on one router you should solve this, if you go into the browser on 192.168.1.254 you will reach the GUI, then if you go to settings - lan settings - private network. You will then see that there are 3 predefined lan ranges, by default your on 192.x.x.x but if you select either 172.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x then this should solve the problem. Once you have selected another range and saved the changes you will need to renew the network adapter to work within the new subnet or your internet will drop. To renew your IP go to start - run (or search) - cmd Once you are in the black command prompt type ipconfig /release once that is complete type ipconfig /renew Once You are on a new IP range you may also need to change a setting on the VPN connection - if you open up your VPN connection and click on properties then the networking tab, then double click tcp/ip, then click advanced at the bottom, the general tab will have a tick box saying to use the remote gateway, you can untick this. This should be all you need to do, once you have done this test by going to start - run (or search) - \\PCNAME and you should be able to access files etc.
I hope this helps.
