Re: BT Versatility BBM+ and V-IP Featurephones

The reported difficulty is a frequent problem for users of the BT Versatility Broadband Plus module.  We have received several reports of this problem via users of these forums and externally.  The programming interface is difficult to work with, since the screen options vary with the firmware version and type of internet connection configured.  The latest firmware version is v189.

When a module has been set up with a single static IP address account, the full endpoint menu options are usually visible.  However, when the same module is set up with a different connection arrangement (including multiple fixed IP address accounts, or via an external modem/router), the endpoint menu often excludes the IP extension and UM service options. The underlying difficulty appears to be with the programming interface, rather than any particular module.

The Broadband module manual guidance is not adequate in relation to these problems.

BT Versatility users have been disappointed and frustrated after obtaining the Broadband modules on the basis of faith in the marketing information.

Several requests for set up guidance have been posted within these forums, but the BT responses have often been inadequate, or simply recommend an expensive maintenance agreement service.  Since the information required is for initial product set up, it is not reasonable to propose an additional long term cost commitment.  Also, the purchase of a supplementary service does not ensure that the product was fit for purpose at the outset.

Perhaps a Trading Standards complaint may be appropriate for the Broadband module product.
