Re: Security

Hi Chris,

BT does not use third party companies to discuss customers' technical problems, so it looks that they were not working on behalf of BT.

I did a quick google search on those companies and 5G Communications seems to be a VoIP provider. I tried to find some info on a company called B B Expert, however the google search brought up mainly links about Big Brother (?).

Assuming "B B" stands for "broadband", it looks that "Broadband Expert" is a broadband speed test tool and a search engine for people to compare broadband providers.

They do seem to be genuine companies, however they definitely are not working for BT, and do not have access to the BT Business and BT Retail database.

It may be that you were contacted for marketing purposes, but I am only speculating here. It may be worth signing up to the Telephone Preference Scheme if you are getting a lot of calls like this. With the Telephone Preference Scheme you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your landline telephone number. You can register online, call the automated helpline on 0845 07 00 707, write to:

Telephone Preference Service
Haymarket House
1, Oxenden Street
LONDON
SW1Y 4EE

Registration is free.

Kind regards,

Stephanie
