Sixway video conferencing. Anyone tried ooVoo yet?
I recently found out about a new application that has some interesting features. It's similar in overall purpose to Skype (in that it lets you make free audio and video calls) but with some crucial differences worth knowing about.
First, unlike Skype, it's not a peer-to-peer application, and it does not use your computer as a node. So it doesn't use your bandwidth while it's idle.
Second, it supports up to six simultaneous video callers. Yes, six.
Also, you do not have to install ooVoo to use it. You can simply follow a link and your browser will instantly join a conference or make a call (if you go to my ooVoo contact page, you can contact me right now).
I don’t know much about the company, except that they’re headquartered in New York and have around 8 million users. It’s good to see some competition in this market.
I just downloaded and tried it out, and so far so good. I’d be interested to know if anyone else has had a go? What do you think of it? Why not give me a video call from my ooVoo page (no install required, yes!)

Second, it supports up to six simultaneous video callers. Yes, six.
Third, ooVoo can run right out of your browser. Simply follow a link and instantly join a conference or make a call. You could give me an ooVoo video call right now. 🙂 (Note: if you've never installed Java, you will be prompted to install it before you can call from your browser.)

Also, if you want to host a video conference, you'll have to download and install ooVoo.
It’s good to see some competition in this market. I've been using it for a few days. Has anyone else has had a go? What do you think of ooVoo?
