I recently found out about a new application that has some interesting features. ooVoo is similar in some ways to Skype (it lets you make free audio and video calls) but with crucial differences worth knowing about.
First, unlike Skype, it's not a peer-to-peer application, and it does not use your computer as a node. So it doesn't use your bandwidth while it's idle.
Second, it supports up to six simultaneous video callers. Yes, six.
Third, ooVoo can run right out of your browser. Simply follow a link and instantly join a conference or make a call. You could give me an ooVoo video call right now. 🙂 (Note: if you've never installed Java, you will be prompted to install it before you can call from your browser.)
For more information, have a look at How can I use ooVoo for my business? and ooVoo Frequently Asked Questions.
Also, if you want to host a video conference, you'll have to download and install ooVoo.
It’s good to see some competition in this market. I've been using it for a few days. Has anyone else has had a go? What do you think of ooVoo?
