Some questions about upload speed and installment dates!

Hey all!

I am moving into my new apartment today and need a business line set up asap. The main problem is I have no idea which package would best benefit me...

I require a stable internet connection with an upload speed of at least 5 mbps. Download speed is less important.

I want to find out how effective the regular BT Business lines are before I look into BT Infinity for business or leased lines, but I cannot seem to find any information on upload speed for these servies: http://business.bt.com/packages/broadband-and-phone/

If anyone could give me any help on this, I'd dearly appreciate it!

Also, how long can it take for a business line to be installed and up and running from purchase date?

As I said, I do need to get my net set up as quickly as possible as my income relies on it! But still it isn't the end of the world if it will have to take some time.

Many thanks for any help!

Hi,

No ADSL service will give you an upload speed of 5Mbps. If you need that upload then your options are either BT Infinity or a leased-line product. Standard ADSL will give you between 0.4 and 1Mb/s.

If there's a working phone line in the premises then it usually takes 5 working days to get ADSL broadband installed. If there's no phone line, or if you want fibre then the leat times are usually a bit longer depending on how busy the engineers are in your part of the country.

Fibre is a minimum for upload speeds of 5Meg, but even if you are in a fibre-enabled area, upload speed is never guaranteed over a broadband circuit, fibre or otherwise. I know that there's no Service Level Agreement on ADSL for broadband; I once heard a whisper that 96kbps was considered acceptable by BT Wholesale, but I've never seen it held up. As of yet, I've not been able to find one for Fibre, either. It shouldn't be too much of an issue if you live in a 80/20meg area, but if you absolutely must have guaranteed upload, then Leased Line is your only option.

I hope you can live with Fibre, because otherwise it could be expensive.
