Well, well, well . . . after I complained to anyone at BT that even showed an inclination to listen about the fact that their web based line checked showed a few days ago that I could have up to 13mbs on the 'up to 20mbs network' - I've just checked again this morning and it nows shows that I can only have up to 7mbs.
I'm about half mile from the exchange and this is all I can get, can anyone offer a plausible explanation? Checking with other companies sites they also show 7mbs as the best obtainable. I have stripped of all unnessesary telephones etc - even the extension was done by BT engineers!
I signed a new contract with expectation of a higher line speed (up to 13mbs was indicated) on this new network and now find that the information was incorrect - anyone from BT care to comment to a customer who is feeling a little dissappointed in all this?

Oh . . . and did I mention that the only reason I've achieved a 50% increase in my line speed is due to some excellent advice through this forum and the help of Alun - a forum moderator.
Bt may be a large organisation but there are some knowledgable staff working there - knack is to be able to find them when you need them of course!

yep...same here.
Inconsistent line speeds coming through on the tel speed checker
I wish someone could explain how ADSL2 works.....why 10 days to settle, why IP profile,.....I understand about the need to sync but I dont understand what things I do that can make a change to the speed....or if the speed will go up after 10 days? It seems stuck at about 6.5 to 7mbs....will it go up?
Just checked the router manager this morning and I'm on 8927kbps down and 1022 kbps upload so it has changed a little - but not enough. Do I get the broadband team to check this or BT I wonder??

Update:
After a couple of months the connection has settled down to 12mbps download/1022mbps upload consistently and is probably the best I'm going to get at the moment.
The simple line checker on BT's web site still erratically estimates anywhere between 5-7mbps - strange why its taken so long to determine the line speed !
