Why is my neighbour's broadband speed twice what I get

Hi

I live in a village and get a download speed of roughly 2.2Mbps whereas my neighbour, 10 feet away, gets 4.5Mbps. I have filters on all sockets and have tested with wired connection to eliminate possible wifi problems. We are both connected to the network via overhead lines which go to the same telegraph pole.

Is there anything I should be checking in my setup that might eliminate the discrepancy, or should I contact BT engineers?

Thanks in advance.

once you have Eliminated all possible noise Interference on the line such as Sky, telephones, removed the faceplate of the socket (if possible ) and gone into the test port with a filter then you need to really wait for a few days to see if the speed increases and possibly still their get an Reset of the line done by

Hi johnswhitehead,

Plumly is correct, in these circusmstances we would reccomend to remove all phones and devices from the line and if your main phone socket has one, remove the front of it to reveal the test port and connect the hub/router with a filter to the test port.

If the line is still running slower that expected, contact the helpdesk with this type of setup either via live chat or by phone using these contact details to allow the helpdesk to test the line, and they will advise if an engineer is needed or if a reset needs to be done to the line to bring the speeds up.
