Windows Server 2012 Essesntials, DHCP and Business Hub 5

Hello all,

I setup a small server at home for the company i am working for using a TP-LINK router and plusnet as my ISP, i installed all the services required and ran it from my home for a few days with no issues at all.

Once happy i moved the server to its new home which uses the BT Business Hub 5 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.200 and on infinity. i made the neccessary changes to DHCP, IP's VPN to match the new network and disabled DHCP on the router.

Almost immediantly we started to notice some issue when browsing online, some websites would struggle to load or not load at all, but a refresh or two later the page would load, at first we thought this was a BT issue and i poked and proded at the settings for 3 days trying to cure it, however once i disabled DHCP on the server and re-enabled it on the router the internet would run fine, also note that while these issues were happening i was able to remotly access the server without issues, and even clients could VPN into the server from outside the local network with no disconnections at all.

I am now wondering if it is the BT HUB causing the problems, as this machine ran without issues at home, i am holding off testing a new router for the time being just incase someone has had these issue before and could offer a fix.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a DNS config issue, did you update the forwarders on the server?

Hi NICKMOV83,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with this. if you give the IT support desk a call they will be able to help. please note this is a chargeable service, however if it is proven to be a BT issue this would be free of charge. 0800 500 247 they are a 24/7 desk.

Thanks,

Alan.

I completely forgot about the DNS forwarder settings....

I just checked and the forwarder is trying to resolve my home routers IP address, i have changed it to the new location now and i will test if the problem is resolved later this evening.

Can't believe i missed this!

Thanks

Nick.
