Hello .
I know this subject has been covered before ( and I have read through the answers above , but they do not quite cover my question ).
We have separate office/room approx. 100mtrs from our main office (still in the same bulding ) where the Hub is situated .
We want to have internet connection to the separate office . I have tried power line connection ( devolo ) but the connection is very poor at best ( guessing building/factory wiring is old ).
The separate room does have it's own independent BT line ( not connected to our BT Quantum phone system ) coming in which serves a fax machine .
Apart from running a ethernet cable though to the other office the only other option is to order a new router/hub which I'm guessing if connected to the independent line would need a new contract separate to our orignal broadband connection , is this correct ? or can i connect router to router ( this may be above my poor technical ability )
thank you
Yes, you would need a new connection with contract for Broadband (ADSL/VDSL/Infinity) and then to maximise efficiency locally a VPN tunnel between the two.
At 100m you best bet is to use an Ethernet connection from your existing Router to a switch at the remote end.
As 100m is the limit for Ethernet - but it can go further, I would suggest using screened Cat6 cable and choose a 23AWG version rather than the smaller 24 AWG.
Thank you for the information MHC .
