Hello! I need to use my Cisco router attached to BT equipment installed and assign manually a public ip address accessible from the Internet. I tried to ask technical support about that, they adviced me to purchase a package of ip addresses.

So the main question is can I do it at all? What should I do to implement such scheme ?

(Cisco 1841 router)-------------------->(BT router)------------>(Internet)

 (real ip address)

Would it be enough to simply buy this package? Please, help, this is a very impotrtant thing for me.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you get a static IP with BT broadband?

We have already got the static ip. But the essential problem is will it possible to assign a pulic ip address on the external interface of my Cisco router. I want to establish a GRE tunnel from my cisco to another routers across the Internet, so the public address is necessary. Yes, I do know about multigre technology but I need to ssh to router without NAT equilibristics.

Have you ever tried the same thing ?

Hello

You could buy a WIC card for your router to use as the dialer.

The POS 2700HGV will prevent vpn from working properly. You can try putting it into bridge mode if you use a single static though. If you have multiple statics it will make a mess of it.

I'd suggest a WIC adsl/adsl2 card or a cheap 857 in front of the 1841 as a default gateway.

I can talk you through the configs fairly simply.
