iWeb 09 and BTConnect FTP

Can anyone help me with thefollowing.

I have web site which was designed using iWeb 09 and my web host is btconnect. I've been advised to change the CNAME in the advance settings, but not sure what this should be.

Is this really required and if yes, what should it be?

Thank you.

A CNAME record or Canonical Name record is a type of resource record in domain name system that specifies that the Domain Name is an alias of another, canonical domain name. This helps when running multiple services (like an FTP server and a webserver; each running on different ports) from a single IP address.

Hi hman007,

If you have been advised to update a CNAME this used to be required for email settings but is no longer required.

Do you have the free hosting?

Or one you pay for?  If you pay for the service and your domain is with BT you should not need to change anything, if your domain name is not with BT but your hosting is you may need to update your "A record".

But you should no longer need to change a CNAME for any reason.

Thanks,

Thanks Steve,

I've removed the CNAME aspect and need to wait 24 hrs to prove my theory. I could be wrong though.

Hi H,

No problem, you may need to setup a URL forward or a frame forward to your webspace, the other option is an A record, but it depends how you have it setup here.

Feel free to PM me your domain and I can take a look.

Thanks,

Hi Steve,

I've replied to your PM, did you have any luck with domain name?

Hi H,

I've been out of the office the last couple of days, but I did send a PM.

I've checked it again today and sent another PM, there is no email reminder when a PM is sent so you may not have noticed this, but if you can check your PM's at the top right of the forums that should make things clearer.

Thanks,

Steve
