on 2nd 2701 HGV-C still freezing up

I have just recieved a replacement BT Fibre Router and it is freezing intermittently exactly like our original one.

Basically what happens is all computers are unable to access websites for a few minutes (wired and wireless) then it continues working without any interation, the problem is it is dropping about 20 -30 times a day.

BT have done line tests and the line seems to be ok. Which is why we were sent a replacement router. When the websites are unreachable, the router admin is also unreachable. This has happened on a Network Connection, Wireless connection and direct wired connection.

I left a ping running to the router IP address while my laptop was directly connected to the router and still there were ping timeouts for a few minutes. While this happens the Internet light freezes on solid green, but there are no red lights. the router then just starts working again without power cycling and the router is not hot to the touch.

The fact that a direct connection ping timesout surely points to a router hardwear problem, but its very strange that we have exactly the same issue on both routers.

I have just done a full reset of the newest router and the only settings I changed from default were, username and password and the router IP address for 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.181.254 and turned off DHCP because our Xserve is providing DHCP for the network, and it has just frozen again!

Hopefully it will sort it!

38 will be the week of manufacture as will 48 so it could be.   I am surprised that all before were from the same batch

This really has me baffled, because this on is dropping out again!!

Last night at about 7:30 I turned all the computers on like I said and had them all streaming BBC TV channels, and not a single dropped packet for at least 2 hours, then around 10pm it dropped out (and obviously stopped all the streaming) so that was the end of the test for the night, but straight away just before 9am I'm getting dropped packets with mimimal browsing - I don't understand how I can have a solid connection with all that traffic for 2 hours no problem, then a few people check their email and go on facebook and its back to dropping every few minutes, I'm just going to try and find out if the firmware was updated at 10pm last night causing the first drop out.

There is aupdate log in the 2700 but it may not give much detail.   Can you tell me what version is installed now?   .63 will mean a possible update has happened.

Basically it cut out twice over night, the 10pm drop out stopped all the streaming, but I don't know if this was the software upgrade, its possible because it did drop for about 15 minutes. It dropped again at 2:26am and I know that the router rebooted at this time and it was the first record in the log with the time set correctly. The firmware was definitely upgraded at one or both of these times because it was .41 last night and .63 this morning.

The logs for around 2:26 show lots of settings being changed, which suggests to me this was the upgrade, but I can't find anything in the logs for 10pm last night, probably because the time had not updated at that point.

I would say that so far today this router is better than the previous ones, but not as good as it was when first plugged in on the old firmware

And the nightmare continues... got a beta firmware update for the draytec vigor 2750n which allowed it to connect to bt infinity - hurray ... but still more dropouts !!

Though it is slightly different with this router, it doesn't freeze up in the same way that the BT ones do, I can continuously ping it internally without any packet loss and can access the web admin while it is dropping internet packets.

And from the more detailed logs it appears to me that it is losing authentication, whether this is the cause or just a symptom of the problem I don't know

Plugged the BT Business Hub 3 in last night, and today is the first day we have had no drop outs since we switched to Infinity, so it looks like is was the router after all!

It took a while for me to track down this post and others. This problem has been driving me potty for a while. We pay extra for Business Broadband so not too happy.

It seems to me problem is with is with the firmware upgrade 6.3.9.63-plus.tm

We have had lousy connections now for approximately 6 weeks. The guy on technical support says we are not actually entitled to a new hub but they are going to upgrade us to ADSL 2 and faster connection (from 8Mbps to 20MBs) in october and as part of that they are sending out a Home Hub 3 so we will just have to wait!? Why would they replace the Business hub if there is not a problem with that? Again, we are paying businesss rates for this service. Every day I get hassled with statements such as "Connection problem again, . . . "
