I'm also looking for this information. Seems smtp.outlook.com will only accept mail from the authenticated user the email is coming from.

I have just biten the bullet and contacted BT Server support. They were helpful and changed the mail delivery option from smtp to DNS. They also suggested getting a reverse DNS setup on our domain and are doing that too. We're using SBS 2011. You could look at this to see if it helps you http://www.sbslinks.com/DNS_Smarthost.htm and the article also mentions the pros/cons for each method and issues around reverse DNS.
how did you get in touch with BT Server support, is there a phone number anywhere???
Thanks
