I need VPN access and the new BT SMarthub does not have this apart from portforwarding to a server which I dont want to do. Has anyone replaced the BT hub with another modem (TP-link, Draytek etc) which has native VPN in the firmware? If so, can the 4G backup be used as well as this is critical to our systems? Many thanks in advance
Hi AmaliJules,
The 4G backup only works when connected to a BT Business Hub. the 4G device won't work with 3rd party routers. I don't know on which 3rd party router can give you a VPN though.

Hi,
I have used mikrotik for years for both SSTP and L2TP VPNs. Similar to this:
https://mikrotik.com/product/RB951Ui-2nD
We have a hub and spoke topology. At the central site (the hub) we put Softether VPN on a virtual machine, doesn't need much processing power if you don't have loads of users.
Softether works with VPN clients on windows, android, iphone as well for individual users/home workers etc.
I should say, I came here because I can't get a SmartHub2 to work. So you'll need your own MODEM or something else on site as well as the Mikrotik box....
