Do any routers/modems supplied bt BT support setting up a secure port forward rule which can be restricted to a single incoming IP address?
HI dsl
Is it a BT Business account you have?
This is a pre-sales technical question. So don't currently have a business account, but need to know the answer to this before signing up.
Sales were unable to answer this and suggested I speak to technical, technical refused to escalate to level 2, because level 1 didn't know the answer (or actually understand the question) and because we didn't have a business account - they suggested we post the question on this forum to get the answer.
Hi dsl
Ah okay, I just wanted to check it was specifically for BT Business as Residential have different hardware. If you were to sign up now, you would get a BT Business Smart Hub 2 or 3 depending on the connection type.
I used to work in Tech myself so hopefully I can help you find the answer. So just to make sure I'm capturing everything - you want to assign a static IP to an device via port forwarding?
No - we want to setup a port forwarding rule for a single port and allow on one external IP address through the rule.
So If 100 people were trying to access the rule from internet it would only allow the one which had a specific public IP address.
This is known as a secure port forward rule.
Any update on this?
Hi dsl
Thanks for clarifying. I have checked with our Enhanced IT Support Team and they have advised the following:
We don't support the secure port forwarding rule on the BT routers. You would need to use more advanced network router to perform that actions.
