Hello,
With a btconnect email, I am able to access MyAccount, but when trying to log in to the mailbox through outlook or the microsoft web portal, it says the password is incorrect.
Changing the password has not fixed it.
As I understand it, the password for the BT account itself should be the same as the btconnect email's mailbox. Why might it be having issues?

You're right, it should be the same password. I would recommend talking to our technical support team to help fix this.
