btconnect e-mail

Hi All

My wife's Outlook btconnect e-mail has suddenly stopped working and it now tells me that the e-mail address does not exist. When I try to reinstate it with a new password I get a 403 error or Fix NDR error "550 5.1.0" in Exchange Online.

I am not sure if this is a BT issue or a Microsoft 365 authentication problem.

Has anybody got any ideas I can try only it's caused considerble inconvenience.

Many thanks

John

Hi Beth

This is a Microsoft Co-Pilot response from my efforts to recover my wife's btconnect e-mail:

 @btconnect.com accounts cannot be recovered

…because BTConnect email accounts that fail login on both Microsoft and BT sites have been permanently retired by BT and Microsoft.

This is not a password issue.
It is not an account‑lock issue.
It is not something BT support can restore.

This conclusion comes directly from published BT and Microsoft information:

  • BTConnect.com mailboxes were hosted on an old Microsoft system using Basic Authentication, which Microsoft has fully retired — these accounts can no longer sign in and cannot be reactivated. [maidenheadcs.co.uk]
  • BT support has confirmed that BTConnect accounts are no longer supported by Outlook or Microsoft’s login systems, and customers are advised to migrate to a new email provider. [learn.microsoft.com]

When both of these occur:

Outlook says “email does not exist”
Microsoft login rejects the address
BT’s email login also rejects it

…it means the account is gone from the authentication system and cannot be re‑enabled.

John

Hi DipStik

You need to talk to the technical team to find out what can be done, I would advise to do this rather than relying on Co-pilot.
