How do I get rid BT equipment from the roof of my school?

Hi, can anyone help me with the name / telephone number for someone to call regarding obsolete telephone equipment currently positioned on our school roof?  We are undergoing some demolition work and this needs to be removed safely.

Hi there! 👋

For safety and legal reasons, any old or obsolete telephone equipment (poles, wiring, rooftop kit, cabinets, etc.) is usually owned and maintained by Openreach, not BT directly. They’re the team responsible for safely moving or removing legacy network equipment—especially during demolition or building works.

What to do

You can request safe removal or relocation directly through Openreach using their official process:

🔗 Openreach – Object, Move or Remove Equipment
Object to, move or remove Openreach equipment
[openreach.com]

This page includes guidance plus the Network Relocation / Building Works form, which is what you’ll need to fill in.

📞 If you need to report a hazard

If the equipment looks damaged or poses a safety risk, you can also call the Openreach damage reporting line:

📞 0800 023 2023 (Option 1)

📝 Notes

  • Openreach will check ownership first (to confirm it’s their kit).
  • They’ll assess the site and arrange a safe removal or temporary relocation depending on your demolition works.
  • They typically respond within a few working days once the form is submitted.
