Are there better alternatives to Easysitewizard ?

Hi there.

I've just bought a BT Web Hosting package and the domain name "sundogs.org.uk" (my band).

I found the Easysitewizard not to be very easy or user friendly at all. Are there alternative ways to design and upload to the BT web hosting site?

Bizzarely BT has a fantastic free web hosting facility called BT Community Web kit which you can be used by community or non profit organisations.  This was SO easy to access, update and publish, but unfortunately BT is withdrawing the service 31 Oct 2012.

It's a shame the BT web hosting you have to pay for is not ran like that.

thanks in anticipation of any help.

Damian

Well there is a free package called WordPress it's a CMS or Content Management System, where you basically choose from thousands of ready made templates then add your own text and images. Very simple and highly customisable with ready made plugins that doing all the complicated stuff for you like galleries, contact forms and so on. Very well supported and has a huge number of users around the world.

The downside however is that it uses a MySql database and for some bizzare reason this is a feature only available on "Professional Web Hosting" package from BT at £15/month. With very few exceptions everywhere else on the web this kind of database support comes included on all packages even those provided by free webhosts such as X10Hosting and 000Webhost.

If you are on the starter package and do not feel a sudden urge to 'upgrade' the only solutions are to learn a little coding yourself, hire a web designer or try get a partial refund and go someplace else for hosting.

ok, thanks very much.

I will persist with the package I've got and see how things go.

One annoying feature of Easysitewizard, which I've unfortunately just found out, is if you look at how another template would work for your site - it doesn't allow you to go back to your original template.

I found a template I liked, added a few pages then published it. I then looked at other templates, but it won't allow me to go babck to my original or even pick it off the list as it sin't there !

Or is this me being stupid ?

thanks again

I know it's not quite the news you had hoped for but persevere with it for a another week and if your hair starts coming out by the fistful come find me. Lurking in my old projects pit are a couple basic content management scripts that should work on BT hosting. So if you find a web page layout you like the look of I'll take a stab at bolting the two together for free for you.

Hello Damian,
Easysitewizard you mentioned does seems to be pretty hard to work with..
I used http://www.exai.com and I strongly recommend trying it (you can try for free) - Its an online website builder that is user friendly and simple (even I managed :)) and you get it for a low cost (the hosting included and you can use the domain you already bought)

Hope I could help,
Alisa

If my hair is coming out by the fistful, can I ask you questions, too?

I am in charge of our website for work and am fairly smart but some things have me stumped. Simple, straight forward editing...like, specifically, changing the size of a table column/cell...why, why, WHY is this so difficult?

Anyway...if you...or anybody else out there...would be willing to answer a few specific format/edit questions, I would be forever in your debt!!
