Can't ping Allocated Static IP Addresses

Hi

I'm trying so setup my brothers broadband for his business, he has been allocated 5 static ip addresses.

I have followed the instructions on adding the router/hub address to the additional network box (Public IP Address) on the router.  I can confirm this is correct because when I try to manually allocate a static ip address for the computer within the NAT & Address Allocation tab it gives me the option of 5 ip addresses within my range given in the paperwork from BT.

The problem I have is that I can't ping, from another PC on the internet (not the local network), the router.  I even allocated an IP address to the machine within the range and couldn't ping that either.  Though I can ping the IP address that the router is getting via DHCP for its Broadband connection.

Can anyone see where I could be going wrong or does this look like a fault, maybe a DNS issue on BT's side.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards

Matt

2 things need to happen before any of your 5 available IP's will be pingable, 1) the IP in question has to be assigned to a device (can be done via NAT & Address Allocation or directly on the TCP/IP settings of the machine. 2) The firewall has to be lowered to that device once the IP has been assigned.

By default ICMP is blocked unless the firewall is completely lowered to that specific device. Obviously the device in question also has to be pingable once those 2 steps are completed before you'll get a response. Just a note, just because an IP cant be pinged doesn't mean it's not working, it just means it's not responding to ICMP requests. You'll still get web access perfectly fine regardless of ping response.
