No engineer... So I set it up myself?

So yesterday, (due installation date), after an incomprehensible call from an Indian representitive for BT (I had *no* idea what he was saying but it would have felt rude to ask him to pass the phone over to someone I could actually understand), who I am assuming was speaking about the enginner coming around to set my internet up... - No enginner called! The due date was yesterday, and well, my business (sole income) is based online so I set the thing up myself going by the instructions provided in the booklet that came with the package that was sent.

The internet works, but the upload speed is not at all what was advertised. O_O It is less than 1mbps, when I was told the guy on the phone when I signed up for this, that it would be more like 8mbps. I do fully realise it's still not only early stages (10 days have not yet passed), but what can I do? I have no idea if any engineer is going to even so much as turn up yet to do more setting up (would this improve the speed?), or even if I will hear back from BT arranging a second "installation date".

What else would need to be set up? Many thanks for any help. I am starting to worry I may already need to do something about this... There is kind of *no way* I want to pay £60 a month for the kind of connection my parents are paying for less than half the price I am, for the same quality line...

My package is BT Business Complete... The thing is - is this even fibre optic? Fibre optic is what I asked for when I made the call to get set up! If it's not, is there anything I can do about this that won't result in a higher cost than £60 a month? Oh my goodness. :S

BT Business Complete is not, as far as I can see, a Broadband package.

Support from India?     That does not sound right ... what number are you calling and are you sure it is the BUSINESS support number?  It should be UK based.

If you have ordered a Fibre based FTTC package then a BT Technician should arrive to install the modem and connect to the router you will have been sent or purchased.

Anyone can help me?

I cannot even afford the money to top my phone up to call BT about this now because I haven't been able to work with the upload speed this low, therefore now this is actually costing me more money. Very frightening.

This is definitely not the kind of tech and service I want to pay so much for, (I have been given ADSL instead of fibre optic it seems) but BT doesn't care to even contact me about this missing engineer? What can I do? I am stunned at the quality of the support they were raving to me about - where exactly is this "freefone access to BT Tech Heads" and "Prompt Care Customer Service Guaruntee Scheme"? None of my numbers seem to work when I enter them into support.. And so I am lost.

The "BT Business and Broadband Desktop Help" icon doesn't even open / work..

Thank you MHC.

I called one of the numbers on the BT Business website - 0800 028 2302 when I set up my (desired) fibre optic business internet package... He was a polite English guy, but if I don't have fibre optic broadband.. he does seem to have messed my order up.

I was then called back on 0800 0285 085 - this is the number where I got the incomprehensible Indian guy. All I could make out was "BT", and I then assumed he must have been telling me that the engineer was due round soon that day, being as it was the date the engineer was due. But of course no one turned up and I haven't heard anything back from them since.

All I've done is set up the package myself, using the instruction book and things they sent me.. and realize it's not quite what I ordered. That is unless the engineer would have set up fibre optic with my package and that's why one was needed in the first place?

I do see though, through conducting some searches, I'm certainly not the only one who has had an engineer just go missing... As you can see, this isn't looking very promising at the moment, and I'm already so, so worried about getting dragged into an unwanted contract that I didn't ask for for the next 24 months, all because of someone elses failure to just take proper care that they simply give me the correct order. :S
