Paper Free

BT are cancelling the paper-free bill discount from 3rd December. Is there any good reason why I shouldn't put BT to the time trouble and expense of sending me the bill by post?

Hi,

Because it would make absolutely zero difference, and just mean that your postie has an extra thing to put through your door?

Let's break it down.

Time - It's an automated system, so unless there is an issue it will take the system an extra 0.1 seconds to caluclate and send your bill for processing.

Trouble - It's an automated system, so see under 'Time'.

Expense - Companies like BT use thousands of tons of paper every day, so your bill (at about probably 5 to 6 sheets, plus an envelope) is like to cost less than 1p.  Add to that the cost of ink (again less than 1p), electric (again less than 1p) and maintenance of the systems (for the purposes of your individual bill, again less than 1p).  So.  About 1p.

In essence you have inconvenienced yourself (by posting about it), me (by replying), the postal service (by having them pass your bill through their systems), and your postie (by having to post the thing, especially if its the only thing that arrives that day) far more than you'll ever inconvenience a company like BT by having them do a paper bill instead of an online one.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

I just heard it earlier today. What does this Paper Free mean here in BT anyway?
